The Lynchburg Marine Corps League is a non-profit organization that raises money from fundraisers and donations, so we can be of assistance to local veterans and the community, such as:
We give 5 scholarships, annually, to local high school seniors.
Provide an annual flag burning ceremony on June 14th, Flag Day, to properly dispose of flags for members of the local community.
Last year we sent over 120 boxes of items to Marines in Iraq and now we are in the process of collecting items, they want snacks, and cash donations to send packages to the Lynchburg Charlie Company Marines that are currently in Iraq.
Recently raised $2,000 for a Marine in Richmond who lost a leg in Iraq, had complications from the surgery, and he, his wife, and baby were about to be evicted from their home.
Recently raised money for a Marine's father, so he could travel here to Lynchburg from out-of-state, to be with his son, who was dying from a terminal illness.
Provide money and/or manual labor to do home repairs for local veterans.
Regularly take personal items to patients at the Salem VA Hospital. Patients have to provide their own personal items, such as, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes, combs, razors, shaving cream, etc. Many of them do not have family members nearby to help with these personal items.
Every Christmas we do a "Hero" Tree at the Marine Corps League for patients at the Salem VA Hospital.
These are examples of some of the services & assisstance that the Lynchburg Marine Corps League is able to provide through hard work and dedication from our members and donations from the local communty & businesses. Events like this, will allow the Lynchburg Marine Corps League to be able to continue to provide assistance & services to, not only, veterans from all branches of the military, but to the local communty as well.
Many thanks to Marine Corps League members, Steve Garner, forhis generosity & hospitality for this Bike Show & BBQ; Sandra Wright for her hardwork and great cooking in the big "re-match" BBQ Cook-off against Steve; to all the entertainersfor giving their talent, their dedication to the MCL, & their friendship; and to all the people working to make this event a success and lots of fun. A big OORAH & Semper Fi to all involved.
